Helping your care business to stand out from the crowd

Founder - Sue Jones

Background

The reason why I care so much about helping home care businesses is because of my experience of care when my lovely Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The type of care we wanted as a family included:

– Help and support to understand the complexities of social care

– Signposts as to who we needed to speak to

– Moving and handling training (we had no idea and were afraid of hurting her)

– Continuity of care from a small team of carers

– For Mum to be viewed as a unique person.

– To call her by her chosen name.

– To make her food supplements the way she wanted it to be made. It was the only thing she could eat

Sadly that wasn’t the case.  Some of the care was good but only some. It wasn’t consistent.

We would have willingly paid for this type of service.  By really understanding what it is to deliver a true person-centred service is what is needed.  That means not talking about home help, companionship and personal care.  We need to start talking about health & wellbeing, nutritional support, family support and enabling people to live their best life, no matter what their situation is.
